I've been reading a lot of Ken Follett recently, and I really like his books. This one is similar to The Eye of the Needleit's about spies during World War Two.

This book is definitely worth reading.

In this story, set in a small American town in 1961, a young boy learns to deal with death and growing up. This book reminded me of To Kill a Mockingbird, in a way.

It's a really good book.

Those Who Save Us

Fiction by Jenna Blum.

Those Who Save Us

Trudie, the main character in this book, was born a German and emigrated to the US after World War Two as a very young child. She has tried all her life to come to terms with her heritage, actually acquiring a PhD in German history in an attempt to understand her people's complicity in the atrocities of that war. But her real story is revealed through the eyes of her mother, the reader learns that she really knows nothing at all about her true history.

This was a great book.

On Chesil Beach

Fiction by Ian McEwan.

Usually I really like Ian McEwan's book, but this one I did not.

The writing was great, as usual, and the characters very believable, but I just disliked what happened so very much. I can't really explain without giving away the ending, so I'll leave that there.

Icy Sparks

This was a pretty good story; it's about a girl growing up in Appalachia in the early sixties. It was a little hard to get interested in but I'm not sure why.

This was an exciting thriller, about a wannabe terrorist group who figures out how to cause an earthquake. Very imaginative, but believable!

The Other Story

Fiction by Tatiana de Rosnay.

The Other Story

I disliked the main character of this book most of the time; however, that doesn't mean I didn't like the book. That's an interesting thing, because usually I wouldn't want to read about an unsympathetic character.

This was an unusual story, as it was basically about a guy with writer's block, but I enjoyed it.
