Under the Influence

In this story, a woman learns the value of true friendship almost too late.

That sounds like a bad after-school-tv-special but it's not. This was a fascinating and thought-provoking story.

This was pretty good romantic thriller, about a good-looking hit man who is hired to kill a beautiful woman. Can you guess what might happen between those two?

Exactly. The S-youknowwhat-X is no surprise, but the plot still has a few twists worth reading about.

The Widow

Fiction by Fiona Barton.

This book was not quite what I expected, but it was interesting and engaging. Maybe I'd call it a slow-paced thriller without a surprising ending? (just to contrast with last last review, ha ha, coincidentally also about a widow) That sounds kind of terrible, but it wasn't.

From the beginning you could pretty much tell what the ending would be, but the story still held my attention quite well, and the characters were great.

In 1961, teenage Laurel Nicholson sees her mother kill a man, and she helps cover it up. Then in 2011, the adult Laurel finally tries to find out what really happened that day.

A really good story with a surprising ending, although it was a little slow in the middle.

This book was a thriller about a psychiatrist and a sociopath, and some other people of course. The twist was that you couldn't tell which person was the sociopath until the end.

This was a pretty good story, based on a couple of minor characters from Arthurian legend.
