The Price of Time

 Fiction by Tim Tigner

A group of scientists discover the key to immortality. What will they do with it? (Besides get tons of money for it, and halt their own aging process...)

This was an exciting story, although it took a few chapters to really get going.

The Secret Life of CeeCee Wiles

 Fiction by Diane Chamberlain

This book begins in 2006 with Corrine Bailey, a young woman with a slightly controlling fiancĂ© and an estranged relationship with her mother. Then it goes back in time to the titular character, sixteen-year-old CeeCee in 1977.

The way these two women are connected is surprising, and the story will keep you interested!

Sick Puppy

 Fiction by Carl Hiaasen.

Twilly is a nature-loving, quick-tempered Floridian who inherited a small fortune and therefore has plenty of time to find people who mess up the environment and "teach them a lesson." But when he follows a littering lobbyist home he gets in a bit over his head.

Carl Hiaasen writes funny heist/caper type stories with an environmental twist. Sometimes they are exciting enough and/or humorous enough to outweigh the stereotypical bad guys and preachy environmentalism. This one was too heavy-handed for me, but I did want to find out what happened at the end...

Struck by Lightning

Fiction by Chris Colfer

Carson Phillips is a high school boy who lives in the middle of nowhere, but he is bound for great things, much greater than his lame classmates could possible understand. At least that's what he thinks...

I'd call this a light read full of dark humor. I really liked it, except for the very last chapter. I see that they are making a movie; I hope they put a different ending on for that.

Never Have I Ever

 Fiction by Joshilyn Jackson

Amy Whey lives a quiet life in a nice neighborhood, where she hosts a book club with her best friend Char. But new neighbor Roux breezes in, gets the book-club ladies a little drunk, and starts a game of grown-up Never Have I Ever that she calls "What's the Worst Thing You've Done?" Then Amy gets the feeling that Roux knows something she shouldn't...

This was an exciting thriller with several surprises!

The Girl in the Mirror

 Fiction by Cathy Glass

This is a novel based on a true story, about a girl called Mandy. She had blocked out a traumatic childhood event so completely that she didn't know it was there. It's not until she has tp go back to the place where it happened that she begins to remember.

This was a pretty good story, but not as good as most of Cathy Glass's books.

The Henna Artist

 Fiction by Alka Joshi

Set in 1955 India, this story is exotic and absorbing. Thirteen-year-old Radha is desperate to escape the village where they call her the Bad Luck Girl. With both her parents dead, she goes looking for the older sister she's never known: a henna artist in the big city of Jaipur.

This is a very good book!!

Found

 Fiction by Harlan Coben

This is the sequel to  Seconds Away, and the third book in the trilogy that began with Shelter. I think it's the last book in the Mickey Bolitar series, which is a shame. I really liked these characters and the plots of all three books were great!

Such a Quiet Place

 Fiction by Megan Miranda

Harper lives in the quiet neighborhood of Hollow's Edge, which seems like a nice place full of nice people. But less than two years ago the couple next door to her were murdered, and one of those nice neighbors must have been responsible. Harper's own ex-roommate Ruby was convicted of the crime, and so the neighbors should have been resting easy with Ruby behind bars. But everyone is still on edge, and now Ruby is back...

This story has a great set up and the plot is not bad; however, I did not enjoy this book. I just didn't like the characters. I think the author was trying to set up a simmering suspenseful sort of atmosphere, and she only succeeded in giving me a vaguely unpleasant feeling.

Still, I really wanted to know what happened, and the ending was a surprise.....

Andrea Vernon and the Big Axe Acquisition

Audible Original Fiction by Alexander C. Kane

This is the final story in the Andrea Vernon trilogy, which began with Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for Ultrahuman Protection. The last book, Andrea Vernon and the Superhero Industrial Complex ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I was really looking forward to this one! It did not disappoint me. This was a very good story!

If you like exciting stories and don't mind taking a leap into a fantasy world, I definitely recommend these audiobooks. The characters are so fun and the plots are great. Remember, though...

The Saddest Girl in the World

 Nonfiction by Cathy Glass

Ten-year-old Donna is removed from her alcoholic mother and placed in a foster home with her two brothers, but then she comes to live with Cathy Glass alone. Donna seems to be such a sad and dejected child that Cathy can't believe her former carers' reports of excessive sibling rivalry could be true.

Soon Cathy learns that Donna feels responsible for keeping the younger kids in line, and blames herself for the fact that she and her brothers were taken into foster care. Unfortunately, her idea of "helping" with younger children is an imitation of her mother's abusive care, and Cathy much keep a careful watch on her own kids when they are with Donna.

In this story Cathy must help Donna learn that she is not responsible for everyone else and work to lift Donna's pervasive sadness as she looks toward the future.

After all, as Mrs. Cabbat, she is a successful lawyer's wife and mother of three, secure from the struggles her own mother had to face and free of financial anxiety.

A Wicked Snow

 Fiction by Gregg Olsen

This was an exciting thriller but it had a few slow parts.

Run Mummy Run

 Fiction by Cathy Glass

This story is a novel "based on a true story," and it's an exciting one!

Aisha is a young woman from a sheltered and traditional home, so when she gets married she does not balk at obeying her husband's wishes. He makes her quit her job as soon as she gets pregnant, stop seeing her family, and stay within an ultra-strict budget. His isolation and control of her is so pervasive that Aisha sees no way out, even when he abuses her physically.

The reader really roots for Aisha and her children to get away from her terrible situation, and I don't feel it's a spoiler to say she finally does. There are some surprises at the end of this story, too!

Mother Knows Best

 Fiction by Kira Peikoff

Fifth-grader Abby Burke doesn’t know why her parents are so secretive. Her dad works from home and they rarely socialize with the other parents; in fact, her mom Claire hardly ever leaves the house. But Claire is hiding a secret that goes back to before Abby was born…

This was a good thriller with an exciting ending, although some parts dragged a bit in the audio version.
