They feel they can leave their pasts behind and start anew. But of course, no place is perfect, an the past tends to catch up with you....

This book was good, although a little slow in places for a mystery/thriller. I was definitely surprised by the twist at the very end.

Fellside

This was a really cool story that did not go where I expected. It's about a woman accused of a terrible crime who is sent to a prison called Fellside, but it's no Orange is the New Black.

It's a great thriller if you don't mind a little weirdness.

[On a side note, what's up with authors who only use their initials instead of their first names? (i.e., J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis) Are they trying to appear smarter? More mysterious? Androgynous? I don't know, but for some reason it makes me really curious to find out what their ACTUAL name is, and also their gender. This particular author, by the way, is a man who may or may not be named Mike. I had to know.]

Missing You

Homicide detective Kat Donovan finds a picture of her long-lost boyfriend on a dating website and tries to reconnect. She gets rebuffed, but it turns out there is more to the story, and the old flame may be mixed up in a murder scheme....

Really cool thriller!!

Cold Flat Junction

This was a story about a twelve-year-old girl in a small town trying to solve an old murder case. I didn't really like it.

It moved too slowly and I almost gave up on it several times, but I really wanted to find out who the murderer was, so I did read the whole thing. The ending wasn't too great either, though.

I'm not giving it the full thumbs-down because it did (apparently) interest me enough to make me finish it. But this one I do not recommend.

Whiteout

Fiction by Ken Follett.

I've mentioned before that I really enjoy listening to Ken Follett's books on tape. Wait, I think I'm dating myself badly here. I mean audiobooks; I realize no one calls them books on tape anymore.

Anyways, this novel was no exception; it was a science scare thriller that rivaled Michael Crichton's books in that genre. To tell you how much I loved it: I kept driving in frigid Alaska temperatures longer than necessary to keep listening. My iPod missed downloading one part of it and I thought I might have to kill someone at iTunes if I had to skip from part three to part five. (Fortunately, part four was safely downloaded and no one was harmed. Whew.)

What I'm saying is: This was a great thriller. Read it!

This was a memoir written by a young woman who was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome as an adult, although obviously she had suffered with symptoms most of her life.

It was really interesting to read about such an easily misunderstood disorder from a firsthand perspective.

The Sister

I actually went to high school with a girl called Louise Jensen, but since I'm not British I'm assuming this is a different person.

This was pretty good book; it had a surprising ending and an interesting beginning. There was something not quite perfect in the middle, but still. A fairly solid thriller.
