Lexie and Jackie are sisters who spend every childhood summer at their grandmother's house in small-town New Hampshire. Gram has a beautiful historic home with a natural pool fed by and underground spring, and she's lived there all her life. In fact, Gram never leaves her home; she's an agoraphobic. Then after the girls grow up, Gram decides to leave her house to Lexie alone, creating a jealous estrangement between the girls. 

But the house may be a burden as well as a gift; the natural springs on the property is said to be haunted and has a spooky history. The story unfolds with Jackie and Lexie in the present day and a woman called Ethel in 1929. Is there something supernatural about the springs?

I liked the characters in this book, but it was awfully creepy. I didn't like the ending.

What is the mist? What will happen when the next winter solstice comes? And WHY don't these people want to leave this awful place? Who knows?

I hated this book. It had a terrible ending and never explained the mist at all. 

Ghostsitter: a Crazy Inheritance

The story is about a boy who inherits an old amusement park filled with bunch of ghosts and monsters from his crazy great uncle or something. But the ghosts and monsters are all nice and friendly. Sort of...

This is a scripted audio performance with several voice actors, and is supposed to be meant for family listening. My son (12) and I listened to it together. I'd say it was okay, but not great. It was mildly interesting to the kid and super weird to the adult.

Our Last Night

I just read a fabulous thriller by this author (see below), so I looked to see if he had any more books. This one was published kind of obscurely in 2015, and was not available at my library, so I had to purchase it online.

Dan and his friend Holden have a successful ghost-hunting reality show, but Dan doesn't believe in ghosts. He really doesn't, but he wishes that ghosts were real so that he could see his fiancee one more time.....

This story was not as good as the other book (because that one was so fabulous!), but it was still a really interesting thriller.

Remembrance

This story is a grown-up sequel to some young adult books called "The Mediator Series," the last of which was published back in 2005. The author picks up the story of Susannah Simon ten years later, as if she were real and had been quietly living her life all this time. It's a cool idea, I think.

I did read the whole Mediator series years ago; --it was about a teenage girl who had the strange ability to talk to ghosts-- however, you would not need to read the previous books to enjoy this one. So much time had passed in the main character's life that the author had to rehash everything anyways, so the reader can catch right up.

This was a fun and exciting story.

The Winter People

This novel tells a story that goes between two different times in the same (apparently haunted) house. Central to the narrative is a book entitled Visitors from the Other Side: The Secret Diary of Sara Harrison Shea. And that secret diary tells about Mrs. Shea's mysterious disappearance.

The Winter People was a good story and a page-turner as well. But it was also kind of horrifying.
