This was an exciting novel set in the fictional version of the Golden Age of Hollywood, which is much more fun than the actual Golden Age of Hollywood. (See All The Stars in the Heavens for more realism and less excitement.)

Love Unexpected

I have said before that I don't usually enjoy reading "straight romances," by which I mean not heterosexual love stories, but rather stories in which the romance between the characters is the entire plot. So normally I would not have chosen to read this book simply by looking at it. (i.e. judging it by its cover, har har!) Everything from the title ("LOVE Unexpected") to the picture (pretty white lady in period clothing) makes it look like a garden-variety Christian Romance Novel.

But since I had read another book by this author (Luther and Katharina) which I enjoyed, I gave this book a shot. And it was pretty good! There was definitely a lot going on with these characters beside just the lurrrve part.

Dearly Beloved

In this thriller, three seemingly unrelated women go to a remote island to stay the weekend. They all come for different reasons, but it unfolds that they've been lured there by... well, by whom we are not sure, but it sure can't be Santa Claus.

This was a fun read with exciting plot twists.

Lilac Girls

Fiction by Martha Hall Kelly.

This was a great book, about three women during World War Two.

Looking at the short synopsis and the front cover, I expected the three women to be friends who were in a concentration camp together, but this was not the case. One woman was in America, one lived in Poland, and one woman was in Germany. The way their stories were linked was surprising.

I definitely recommend this book!

Talking Can Be Dangerous

This was a really good thriller, written by a local author, although it's not set in Alaska.

I recommend it if you like suspense fiction!

This was an unexpectedly good story; it's about Martin Luther and his wife. (That's the Martin Luther of the Reformation, not his namesake in the 1960's, by the way.)
