Abby Williams is an environmental lawyer in Chicago, but she is still haunted by memories of Barrens, Indiana, the small town she grew up in. There was a girl called Kaycee Mitchell, who was both Abby's best friend in elementary school and chief bully in high school; Kaycee became inexplicably ill during senior year and then disappeared just before graduation. Ten years later, Abby gets the chance to investigate a case in Barrens, and goes there with the idea of finally solving the mystery of Kaycee's illness and disappearance.

This was a pretty good mystery/ thriller, but I didn't love it.

Twilly is a nature-loving, quick-tempered Floridian who inherited a small fortune and therefore has plenty of time to find people who mess up the environment and "teach them a lesson." But when he follows a littering lobbyist home he gets in a bit over his head.

Carl Hiaasen writes funny heist/caper type stories with an environmental twist. Sometimes they are exciting enough and/or humorous enough to outweigh the stereotypical bad guys and preachy environmentalism. This one was too heavy-handed for me, but I did want to find out what happened at the end...

This is a caper novel with an environmentalist twist. (Everything Carl Hiassen writes has an environmentalist twist. See his youth novels Hoot and Flushed.) 

It's a funny story though, one where you know the good guys will come out on top and the bad guys will get what they deserve.

Gray Mountain

Fiction by John Grisham.

This book is exactly what you'd expect from John Grisham: a page-turner about a young lawyer bucking the system and trying to save the world. (Twist: this time it's a young female lawyer!)

It's a good story and very informative about some troubling legal/environmental/social issues.
